To ensure all clients receive comprehensive, standardized care, Occupational Therapists practicing in Canada follow a work flow known as the Canadian Practice Process Framework (CPPF). This practice process dictates each step of an Occupational Therapist’s therapeutic relationship with the client from the initial referral to discharge.
As seen below, there are 8 stages in the CPPF:
When working through these stages, Occupational Therapists consider the context of the therapeutic relationship (i.e., practice and social environments) as well as the frame of reference that best describes the client’s current functional performance issues. These considerations structure the Occupational Therapist’s understanding of the client’s issues, as well as the rationale for chosen assessments and interventions.
