The field of Occupational Therapy (OT) focuses on helping people engage in activities that they want or need to do every day. Since engagement in daily activities can be impacted by so many different factors, Occupational Therapists require a diverse set of approaches to effectively address all the possible barriers clients may encounter.
As seen below, Townsend and colleagues (2007) developed a model known as the Canadian Model of Client-Centered Enablement (CMCE) that categorizes OT interventions into 10 key skills. These skills form a toolbox that Occupational Therapists use to help clients re-engage in daily activities.
